The watercolour is a very powerful way to express one’s feelings – in particular, it can effectively represent a fleeting and fluid artistic inspiration. My work is not just a representation of what’s seen, it’s my interpretation of the total experience and feeling behind the place. In some ways it echoes what I understand of indigenous art, these paintings reflect an inner sense of land and place. Painted with broad strokes and details, they are used to strengthen the gesture and statement without destroying the value of its structure.
