Back to normal

When life has thrown you off your feet
Does it ever get back to normal?
When life has turned itself on its head
Can we simply move away and forget?
At first with sympathy then with disdain
Those who came disappear with time
Their concern fades while you keep plodding
Then with surprise greet, “thought you’d be fine”
The changes wrought in aged subtlety
For time and perseverance wears change
No satiety recognised in myopicity
Yet by distance comes into clearer focus
This marathon run, the race draws to an end
Yet never do we finish were we started from.
