fallen into shadow

Black hills fallen into shadow
Deep water reflects itself
Winter sky on the horizon

Sable clouds on a deepening sky
Blue patches drifting close
White birds on the wing

Deep shadows touch the earth
Long grass in deference
Prays in homage to the south.

The morning sun falls
Filling the shadows
With its eternal glow

Sitting in a darkened room
‘Neath an electric lamp
Writing poetry for no one.
The world does not always
Ere on the side of fairness.

Shafts of darkness flood into the light,
Light becomes the broken black
Coloured lights reflect the nights skyline
Moved by the ebb and tide.

Small ferries tired from their daily grind
Move ripples away from the curve

Through the mangrove roots, they edge away
How deep in these depths they carry the stars.

How much do they stir the heart?
